Year
In 2020, the Penta Foundation launched the pilot year of the innovation grant program for healthcare professionals from the Penta Hospitals network in Slovakia to support science and research. Our employees thus had the chance to submit a project for a grant opportunity aimed at supporting development, research and innovative ideas in the field of health care in Slovakia. In this way, we also helped the development of research activities and medical know-how of our healthcare professionals. The project was financed by the Penta Foundation and the winning projects were selected by an expert jury.
One of the Innovation grant’s winning projects was the Cognity Care project at the Trebišov Hospital. This is a unique project for treating patients with mental illness using virtual reality. It is intended primarily for patients with certain forms of depression. These patients often have reduced self-confidence and a feeling that they are unable to cope. By completing tasks using virtual reality and self-realization, they often overcome their problems and begin to trust their abilities.
The Cognity Care application was created by Richard Bodnár, a psychologist at the Trebišov Hospital, in cooperation with Deutsche Telekom and with the financial support of the Penta Foundation. Virtual reality of this type is actively used in the treatment of psychiatric diagnoses in only three places in the world, namely in California, Spain and, starting in 2020, also in Trebišov.
