The MISIA 1000 project focuses on the crucial 1,000 days after a child’s conception. During this period, the lifelong health of children can be positively influenced through lifestyle, parenting skills and instilling positive habits in the child. Assistance in the home and around the hospital is carried out by trained volunteers, so-called midwives. Midwives spread awareness among pregnant women and mothers from marginalized communities in eastern Slovakia, provide support, connect women and healthcare providers, help with prenatal preparation and often with childbirth and subsequent care for newborns and toddlers. The project is currently running in two Penta Hospitals – in Spišská Nová Ves and Vranov nad Topľou. Penta Foundation’s support for the project is now in its sixth year and has thus far provided funds totaling €100,000 for its implementation.
